Something’s Got to Give mix

[clearly, we haven’t posted much recently.  it’s a rite of passage for a blogger to say that several times.  anyway, we’ve been making stuff; i promise you that.  we just suck otherwise.  you’ll see.]

As we enter summer, I wanted to share a mixtape that Jesse Rogg [Golden] and I just put together, ‘Something’s Got to Give.’

Jesse’s record label, Modus Vivendi Music, whose studio is in nearby Los Feliz [but represents artists from all over the world] has been a part of Found’s events, exhibitions, and general shared sense of a diverse boutique for cultural output.

It’s inspired by the unreleased Marilyn Monroe picture of the same name, as well as the Jack & Diane romcom ‘Something’s Gotta Give,’ although neither Jesse nor I have ever seen either.

We hope the mix recasts familiar sounds and songs in a context you might not have considered, meanwhile delivering bits and pieces which you might have never heard through a nostalgic filter.

We’ve decided a long time ago that genre-bound mixes might be easy to mix, because of similar instrumentation, tempo, themes, lyrics, etc. but typically feel flat, consistent to a fault, and….easy.  We’ve also come to the conclusion that there’s nothing more deflating than reading a track list before you hear a mix, so that’s why you don’t see one.  Will gladly share the tracks with you, though.  Also, some of our friends with taste will be tapped to put together some fun, diverse mixes on an irregular basis, under the Budget Cuts series.

Thanks to Classixx, who provided an amazing unreleased instrumental, Love Grenades, Casxio [w/ Golden + Public’s soon-to-be-released remix of ‘17?], all the Modus Vivendi Music family, and, of course, the internet.

Download it here.

Don’t worry, we didn’t go away…

I’m cross posting this here, just in case any of our loyal NoPerformance fans were worried.  ~Brady

Contrary to popular belief, Found Gallery did not disappear today. A number of concerned Joint Custody artists have contacted me today regarding the fact that our website is down. Our current show, Irene Kai’s What Do You See?, was featured today on the front page of BoingBoing. We had over 6,000 visitors within the first 20 minutes. This caused our server to break. We are diligently working to get it back up and online. In the meantime, please visit follow our updates on Twitter.

Thanks for your patience,

indie-pop’s latest crop of one-(wo)man-bands.

The author focused on three performers:  Final Fantasy, St. Vincent and Panda Bear - all of whom I like, esp Panda Bear and his crazy-kooky Animal Collective compadres.  And yes, as author he (John Wray) has every right to select his subjects and thesis at whim.  But seems to me Wray does absolutely minimal stretching and investigating beyond June’s lineup at Northsix in Williamsburg.

Really?  You’re going to publish an entire article on the art of introducing electronic-based looping into the pop/rock idiom, giving credit to Trey Anastasio of Phish (just threw up in my mouth a bit, sorry), but no mention of the following:
